OsmAnd(Navigation) “Position not yet known”

OsmAnd is an Open Source alternative to Google Maps(GM). GM uses a few methods to find your location, including looking at which WiFi signals are in range. This means that GM is able to find your location, even if you are inside a building.

OsmAnd on BoringPhone uses GPS to find your location and so may not detect location while inside a building. Once you are outside or in a car, OsmAnd should be able to confirm a location with a minute or so.
