To transfer files you can connect the BoringPhone as if it were a USB drive:

Plug your phone into the computer using the USB-C Charging cable

Go onto your phone, unlock and swipe down from the top of the screen.

You should see a little line that says “Android system . Charging this device via USB ▼“

Press that line, tap for more options, and then choose “File transfer“

You should then have the BoringPhone pop up as a USB drive. Photos are in the DCIM>Camera folder.
